310 Shake is a healthy meal replacement formula made with some of the finest natural ingredients in the world.

Shakeology Summary

When you hear the term meal replacement shake, Shakeology is a name that often comes to mind. One of the most, if not the most popular meal replacement shake, this option has both lovers and haters, and everything in between – but enough people love this shake for it to be deemed one of the top 5 best meal replacement shake options according to our in-depth analysis.

We looked at many diet shake reviews to gather opinions on this shake, and found answers to many of the pressing questions that potential buyers have. Does the shake contain fructose and is that bad? Why does this shake cost so much? Is the taste good or bad? Read on to find out how we rated this popular diet shake…

Flavors

The Shakeology shake formula comes in five flavor varieties: Café Latte, Café Latte Vegan, Chocolate, Vanilla and Vanilla Vegan.

Taste

There were mixed reviews on the taste of each Shakeology shake. While many chimed in that they loved these shakes or at least could tolerate them, many others claimed the taste is not their favorite part.

Some users described having to chug it down pretty quickly, because if they didn’t it would thicken to the point where it was very hard to drink. Others have described it as having good flavor, but not a preferred texture.

Even with the taste reviews being mixed, this shake offers a ton in terms of nutrition, which we will look at next.

Editors Tip: Studies suggest that meal replacement shakes offer the best results when used for at least 5 months. Save money and buy in bulk or bundles.*

Shakeology Nutrition Facts

The ingredients vary depending on the formula, as does the taste.

Let’s take a look at the nutritional facts for both the vegan and the non-vegan formula…

Shakeology Vanilla Label:

Shakeology Ingredients

Shakeology leverages “fructose” (basically another form of sugar) for it’s sweetener.

Shakeology Vanilla Vegan Label:

Calories

Looking first at Shakeology Vanilla, it provides 130 calories per 1 scoop serving. The Vegan Vanilla, in comparison, provides 150 calories per 1 scoop serving. This amount of calories are good for weight loss, but not as low as some other options. Many people in diet shake reviews expressed mixing their Shakeology shake with other ingredients including milk, fruits and vegetables, nut butters, etc., which will bring the calorie count up higher per shake.

Protein Sources

Non-vegan blend:

The main protein source in the non-vegan Shakeology shakes is whey protein. Those shakes also contain pea, sacha inchi, chia, flax and quinoa.

The type of whey protein in these shakes is whey protein isolate, which is not our favorite choice. Because it’s a blend and that is not the only protein source used, that makes it better, however, we would have preferred whey protein concentrate to be used.

Whereas whey protein isolate is better for those who are lactose intolerant and contains a higher amount of protein per serving, it is much more processed so it usually is more expensive, and does not have the health-promoting qualities found in  whey protein concentrate.*

The second protein used in the blend, pea protein, contains branched chain amino acids which help in the loss of belly fat and also serve as a muscle strength source. Pea protein also keeps your stomach full.

This shake formula contains 16g of protein, a good amount for health purposes and weight loss.

Vegan blend:

The vegan Shakeology blend contains the proteins chia, pea, sacha inchi, flax, quinoa, rice and oat.

Chia seeds are a complete protein, containing all nine essential amino acids, and we are glad that the company went with this protein instead of soy protein, which has been linked to potential health problems and controversy.

This shake formula also provides 16g of protein.

Proprietary Superfood Blend

Each Shakeology shake offers a proprietary superfood blend which is slightly different for the non-vegan and vegan formulas. Both of them greatly contribute to the positive health factor and nutritional value of each shake.

For instance, the blend contains acerola cherry which is a great antioxidant. Pomegranate powder provides vitamin C and vitamin B5, while maitake powder contains vitamin B2 and vitamin D2. Camu-camu powder and bilberry powder are other powerful antioxidants, while blueberry powder is good for overall metabolism. Other included fruit powders help in strengthening eye vision, liver function and maintaining blood sugar.

Other Proprietary Blends in Shakeology Shake

Too many of the shakes offered today don’t include the nutrition that people need in their everyday, busy lives. But that is not the case with this Shakeology shake, which contains nearly all the nutrients you would need, and many more.

Their “exotic blends” of many natural ingredients contain super-nutrients to fuel your body. Here are the four additional proprietary blends found in Shakeology shake:

Proprietary Super-Fruit/Antioxidant Blend – These exotic superfoods and vitamins provide antioxidants that fight free radical damage and boost immunity in the body. This blend contains six to eleven super-ingredients slightly different for the vegan vs. non-vegan shake formula. Some of those ingredients include camu-camu, acerola cherry, bilberry, lycium berry (goji berry), and green tea as well as vitamins A, C and E.

Proprietary Super-Green/Phytonutrient Blend – This blend supports overall health and vitality. Contains moringa, chlorella, spirulina, spinach and kale.

Proprietary Adaptogen Blend: Helps the body adapt and deal with stress. Contains Ashwagandha, Astragalus, Cordyceps, Maca, Maitake, Reishi and Schisandra.

Proprietary Pre- and Probiotic/Digestive Enzyme Blend: Helps with nutrient absorption and supports regularity as well as healthy digestion. Includes amylase, cellulose, lactase, yacon root, chicory root, and other beneficial ingredients.

Fiber Source

Another thing we like about this shake is that it offers a good amount of fiber (from beneficial ingredients shown above) to help you lose weight and reduce food cravings. It will also provide you with the energy you need to power you through your day, and can help improve digestion. Just a note though, that there are still other shakes that provide more fiber, and the more fiber, the better.

Shakeology comes in at average with 3g of fiber in the Vanilla shake and 4g in the Vegan Vanilla shake. The fiber contributors in Shakeology shake are flax seed, pea fiber and chicory root fiber (also known as inulin). Another such ingredient that contains fiber is yacon root.

Sugar and Sweeteners Used

Shakeology keeps evolving and now uses natural Stevia for its sweetener, we love natural sweeteners like this! The problem lies with the other sweetener which is fructose which is just another form of sugar. Although they do use non-GMO fructose, it is still a controversial ingredient, with its potential health consequences in question.

The real concern here, however, is the amount of sugar per serving. With 7g of sugar in both the Vanilla and Vanilla Vegan formulas, and with the notion of taking this shake at least twice a day for weight loss, that is a lot of sugar!

Even if the fructose used comes from natural ingredients, sugar does not react well in the body, and leads to weight gain, not loss. In general, staying away from sugar is the best option. For this reason, we think the sugar amount in each Shakeology shake is entirely too high.

The Company Behind Shakeology

Shakeology is a product of Beachbody LLC, an American multinational company that is a leading name in current health and fitness products. The multi-level marketing company (MLM) works by selling their shakes online, but also by having others sell them to make a profit.

The company offers other health, nutrition, fitness and even beauty and skin health products on their website.

Contact Information

You can contact them through the contact numbers on their website here or even chat live with them. If you want to cancel your products, you can do so through chat as well.

Shakeology Cost

This is an area where Shakeology really doesn’t claim that edge over the competition: price. The price of Shakeology shakes is considerably higher than other brands, which might be due to their MLM business model, but either way, it’s a little hard to swallow.

For a one time purchase, one 30-serving bag of shake costs $129.95 (which equates to $4.33 per shake if you use one scoop).

Of course, if you start to sell Shakeology shakes, you can receive a discount on your shakes, but according to diet shake reviews, most people don’t prefer that route.

Shakeology Shake Conclusion

While Shakeology offers an impressive array of ingredients that can benefit overall health, the amount of sugar in each serving is high, and fructose is used.

While there were mixed reviews on the taste of the shake, more people disliked it than we would prefer, and the price is higher than many other brands. In general, this is a good shake option, but if you choose to try it, be careful how much sugar you consume in a day. If you like the taste and don’t mind the price, this might be the shake for you.
