Ok, let’s be honest with ourselves. As much as we hate to admit it, summer is almost over, and the best thing we can do is prepare ourselves for fall and then winter…
Brrrrrrr. Staying motivated to maintain your fitness lifestyle can already prove to be a challenge, but finding the drive to continue going to the gym when it’s cold can be especially daunting. This is caused by many factors such as depressive moods, shorter days and colder weather.
No matter what, we have to be strong and keep our eye on the prize.
Let’s be honest, just because the temperature drops doesn’t mean our weight will continue to do the same.
Here are three ways to ensure you maintain your summer body through winter woes:
- Stay Focused
Keep this in mind: If you work hard all through fall and winter, you will be a force to reckon with once spring weather kicks in! You’ll be light years ahead of those who wait until the spring to go #beastmode on their bodies.
Ask yourself, “Do I really want to start over next year?” Don’t let those months of eating right, maintaining a schedule and working hard go to waste. Dig deep and power through the cold times so you are at your peak (and sexiest) during the hotter ones.
- Try Something New
One of the best solutions for staying active during the cold months is finding something new and exciting to try. For example, hot yoga during the winter season doesn’t sound too bad, does it? What about taking up an outdoor winter sport such as snowboarding or ice-skating? If you’re the type that enjoys being outdoors, this could work wonders for you. It’s something fun to try and you’re staying active. Win-win!
Don’t forget to check out the local gym because they may be running specials due to colder weather. When they start to see a decline in visitors, they often turn to incentives to entice people to come back. You may luck out and find a great deal and who doesn’t like to save money during the holidays?
- Goal Setting
This is the time to set a realistic goal for spring. What about prepping for a spring marathon or a fitness competition. Or, it could be something simpler like continuing your clean eating diet or losing 10 more pounds. Obligate yourself to something specific so you’ll stay motivated. Whatever it may be, write it down and place it on your bathroom mirror or replace your phone’s screensaver with an image or quote that motivates you to be your absolute best.
Stay focused, motivated, goal oriented and open minded.
Try these easy suggestions and the winter blues will have nothing on you!
